In 2006, Michelle Branch teamed up with her friend Jessica Harp on a new project that focused more on the country sounds that Jessica was familiar with while still showcasing Branch’s pop/rock style.
They called themselves The Wreckers.
After a successful appearance singing on One Tree Hill, the duo embarked on a One Tree Hill tour with some of the other cast members, including theme song singer Gavin DeGraw. The duo had built up a following and needed to release a full project which they did in 2006.
The lead single was “Leave the Pieces.” It ended up reaching the top of the charts that summer as well as leading to a Grammy Award nomination for “Best Country Performance By a Group or Duo.”
The duo released two more songs before realizing they wanted to focus on their solo careers. The Wreckers went their separate ways in 2008, only two years after their debut single reached #1. It’s an interesting hypothetical to think about what their country career would’ve looked like if they would’ve continued on.
