For Brandon Ratcliff, music is in his blood. The son of Suzanne Cox, of the renowned Cox Family, Brandon was surrounded by music since birth. Not resting on his family name, Ratcliff turned down a publishing deal at the age of 20 and instead decided to take the time to find himself as an artist and songwriter.
It wasn’t long before he was surrounded with fellow songwriters who shared his similar style from country to R&B to John Mayer. And it wasn’t long before superstar producer and songwriter Shane McAnally noticed him. McAnally helped Ratcliff hone his craft and stylistic direction.
Brandon’s debut track, “Rules of Breaking Up,” already has over 3 million streams on Spotify and is found on multiple new country playlists. His latest song, “Number in My Phone,” was released in February. Both songs give fans an idea of exactly what kind of music Ratcliff wants to produce — a blend of genres with fresh and creative song stories.
All country music is telling a similar story over and over again, in different ways, and Ratcliff definitely has no problem being completely original. To top it off, he’s currently on tour with Kelsea Ballerini and Brett Young.
Not bad for a guy who turned down that publishing deal four years ago.
