Artist You Need to Know: Clare Dunn

A Colorado, hard-working farm girl, Clare Dunn has become one of the prominent up and coming female artists of the genre. Up and coming may even be an unfair assessment. She’s called Nashville home for nearly 10 years, starting off by working her way through college and learning the ins and outs of the business.

Clare first made the move to Nashville after the success that she found on satellite radio, which led to her signing with Universal Music Group Nashville. The first “in” she got was singing backup on Luke Bryan’s “Country Girl (Shake It For Me).” By the end of 2013 she released her first single “Get Out” and became the highest charting independent female artist on the Music Row Country Breakout chart in 10 years.

After releasing one more song (“Cowboy Side of You”) the following year, Clare spent the next three years trying to get out of, as she says, “a bad deal, a bad contract.” The setback never deterred her though, and she continued to write songs and make music until she signed with MCA records in 2015 and released her self-titled EP album. Both singles from the album “Move On” and “Tuxedo” made a splash and charted on the Billboard Hot Country Songs.

Dunn brings that girl power element that you hear in Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood. “Move On” is all about the girl calling the shots and taking the lead in the relationship. “Tuxedo” is true to Dunn’s upbringing; she’s not looking for the guy dressed to the nines. As the lyrics say “He like a knight in shining armor with them blue jeans on dirty white tee…”

All of Clare’s hard work came to a full circle when she made her Opry debut in May of 2016, where she used to sell souvenirs out of the Opry gift shop. She’s not stopping there though. In 2018 she released “More” and “Put You Into Words” (currently on repeat in my car). This Spring she is joining Cassadee Pope and Hannah Ellis out on “The Next Women of Country” tour.

Clare has everything that a strong female country singer should have, a phenomenal voice to go with her uniquely crafted songwriting, and a sense of who she is and how to navigate the business.
