Jon Langston is in some good company with Lee Brice, Sam Hunt, and Chase Rice. A talented football player, Langston received a Division 1 scholarship to play for Gardner-Webb University. However, similar to the others mentioned, his football career was derailed due to injury (concussions).
The good news for Langston, and us as fans, is that he had a pretty good backup plan in music.
After not playing music since middle school days when he and some buddies had a band that was more of a hobby, Langston had to learn guitar over again. He did what anyone in the YouTube era would do and uploaded songs to YouTube and began building a following and a dedicated fan base. His big break would come in 2013 when he opened for Chase Rice at a show.
Later that year he released his first EP and would continue to make music over the coming years. Last year he caught his biggest break yet and was signed by notable record label UMG Nashville.
Langston has an authentic Georgia-country voice. It’s a breath of fresh air in country music, given the criticism that it’s gone too far pop and not enough country. Langston along with Riley Green and Travis Denning are some of the risers in country music that country fans can really get behind. If you’re a fan of Cole Swindell and Jason Aldean, then Langston is the next artist you need to check out.
