Throwback Jam: “She’s In Love With the Boy”

It’s the love story of Katie and Tommy.

In 1991, a new country artist by the name of Trisha Yearwood shot up to the top of the charts with her debut single “She’s In Love With the Boy.” It’s easily one of the most recognizable songs of 90s country.

The mastermind behind the hit is Jim Ims. The opening line of “Katie’s sittin’ on the old front porch, watchin’ the chickens peck the ground” came to him one day as he was tinkering with potential song lyrics. He then went through a thorough process of adding other phrases into the song that would relate to the opening hook. Even coming up with the actual song title was a process.

Jim drew from real life experiences that he had experienced from a girl he use to date. Jim expands in fascinating detail the entire writing process from start to finish in a guest post he did many years ago. I strongly encourage you to check it out.
