Until you go back and listen, it’s easy to forget how influential Collin Raye was to country music in the 1990s.
With 11 studio albums, numerous number one hits, and countless songs to his writing credit, the throwback for this week may not be his most well-known song. “I Think About You” was released in February of 1996 and peaked at #3 in the US and #2 in Canada. The song was written by two giants of the country music songwriter circles: Don Schlitz (“The Gambler,” “Forever and Ever Amen“) and Steve Seskin (“Grown Men Don’t Cry“).
Centering more around the love of a father to his daughter, it was only appropriate that Raye’s own daughter, Brittany, starred in the music video, which also won the ACM for Video of the Year. Don’t be afraid to let this song catapult you into diving down the Collin Raye playlist hole. To make it even easier for you, go check out his greatest hits album, which he released earlier this year. It features 25 of his biggest songs to commemorate his 25 years as artist. I only wish I had a cassette tape to listen to it on, like the old days.
